چکیده
This chapter examines the nature of semantic relations and their main applications in information science. The nature and types of semantic relations are discussed from the perspectives of linguistics and psychology. An overview of the semantic relations used in knowledge structures such as thesauri and ontologies are provided, as well as the main techniques used in the automatic extraction of semantic relations from text. The chapter then reviews the use of semantic relations in information extraction, information retrieval, question-answering and automatic text summarization applications.

A New Method for Improving Computational Cost of Open Information Extraction Systems Using Log-Linear Model
Information extraction (IE) is a process of automatically providing a structured representation from an unstructured or semi-structured text. It is a long-standing challenge in natural language processing (NLP) which has been intensified by the increased volume of information and heterogeneity, and non-structured form of it. One of the core information extraction tasks is relation extraction wh...

Background and Aim: Information systems cannot be well designed or developed without a clear understanding of needs of users, manner of their information seeking and evaluating. This research has been designed to analyze the Ganj (Iranian research institute of science and technology database) users’ query refinement behaviors via log analysis. متن کاملConcepts and semantic relations in information science
Concept-based information retrieval and knowledge representation are in need of a theory of concepts and semantic relations. Guidelines for the construction and maintenance of knowledge organization systems (KOS) (such as ANSI/NISO Z39.19-2005 in the U.S.A. or DIN 2331:1980 in Germany) do not consider results of concept theory and theory of relations to the full extent. They are not able to uni...
متن کاملThe Semantic and Rhetorical Function of the Synonymous and Antonymous Concepts of “Infaq” in the Holy Quran
The syntagmatic (descriptive) semantic approach is an attempt to represent the words and their relations existing in the human mind. Considering this idea, the present paper, while applying this approach, seeks to provide a descriptive analysis of the concept of infaq and to explain the semantic and rhetorical function of the concepts that having a syntagmatic relation with it are sometimes use...
متن کاملExpliciting Semantic Relations Between Ontologies in Large Ontology Repositories
Our goal is to develop a framework for detecting and managing semantic relations between ontologies for large ontology repositories. Making explicit implicit relations between ontologies provides meta-information that facilitates the development of Semantic Web Applications. The development of the framework relies on an ontology-based methodology. This approach offers several advantages, among ...
